Boston Dance Theater: Red is a Feeling

Boston Dance Theater Presents: Red is a Feeling

Red is a Feeling is an evening of short dance works that present multi-faced expressions of love, longing, and the fight to live, woven together by the color Red. The program takes its title from a new commission by Iranian-Hispanic choreographer Roya Carreras Fereshtehnejad, who was diagnosed with two forms of cancer in her early thirties, undergoing chemotherapy and multiple surgeries.

Boston Dance Theater commissioned Roya to make a new piece which “recalls the sensations where the experience of fighting for your life, holding on to each minute, and letting go all collide into the here and now.” Roya’s piece is paired with BDT Founder/Co-Director Jessie Jeanne Stinnett’s Fifties – set to a collection of favorite popular tunes from the 1950s. With the healing power of movement at its center, Fifties celebrates joy and rhythm and invites the audience to clap along as the work unfolds. Jessie and Roya’s pieces are joined by two stirring duets from BDT’s repertoire: If as if by Itzik Galili and Firebird by Marco Goecke.

And Neither Have I Wings To Fly

Set in 1950s Ireland, "And Neither Have I Wings to Fly" is a warm, passionate, and humorous drama about the tension between obligation and following one's own path. Written by Ann Noble and directed by Paul Champlin.

BLISSFUL STORYTELLING

There are no high-flying theatrics or overwrought scenes, only blissful storytelling that triggers one’s innermost longings, and the hearty Irish folk humor blends effortlessly with the glorious poetry of Noble’s words. — Chicago Newcity

UNFLINCHING COMPASSION AND CONTAGIOUS WISDOM

If one of life’s toughest tests is to forgive the loved ones who abruptly leave us, Noble’s play confronts the challenge with unflinching compassion and contagious wisdom. — Chicago Tribune

Los Sugar Kings

WHO ARE THE SUGAR KINGS?

Sugar Kings (named after a Cuban baseball team) is a Boston-based quartet known for their dynamic live performances, rich harmonies, intense musicianship, and ability to transcend genres with an authenticity rarely heard. In their world, respect is paid to the forefathers of Afro-Cuban Son, Salsa, and Rumba-Flamenca. But that's only part of their story.

Sugar Kings also actively draw on influences from nearly every continent in their unique Roots-Rock-Reggae repertoire. All are highly accomplished on their instruments; however, the true magic of Sugar Kings is how these four individuals come together to perform worthy of any festival, party, club, or concert hall. Every show is an intimate, spontaneous, and joyous dialogue between the band members on stage and their audience.
