Clown Workshop: Making a Scene

Join Jihan Haddad in this one-day early release youth Clowning Workshop! Grades 2nd-7th will discover what makes themselves uniquely funny. Middle school students signed up for this workshop are welcome to come straight to the HCA from school to wait for the workshop to begin. Those students attending Hopkins Elementary can take advantage of our free walk-up service.
During this workshop, we will be exploring the world of physical play and how expression, interaction, and characterization can all be articulated through a fully-embodied practice. Within the structure of various clowning games and exercises, students will engage with each other, their surroundings, and the range of their own bodies, in order to explore the art of storytelling. With the vocabulary given to us by Michael Chekhov's Psychological Gestures (head, heart, gut centers), students will create a shared language so that brave work can happen in a safe, creative, and fun space.
Jihan is an actor, theatre maker, and educator currently based in Providence, Rhode Island. She has worked professionally at Trinity Repertory Company, The Hanover Theatre, The American Shakespeare Center, Northern Stage, Lyric Stage Company of Boston, and other regional theaters in the country.
