Come join your HCA ceramics instructors for a Raku Rendezvous in Needham! This Raku fieldtrip consists of a supervised glazing and firing session. Glazing instruction includes an explanation and description of the available glazes, application, and various expected results. Firing instruction includes information on basic kiln theory, loading, firing in oxidation versus reduction atmospheres, and basic post-firing techniques.

The fieldtrip will include an hour of glazing and four hours of firing in several loads of each of two kilns. Each student will need to bring several cylindrical bisqued pots to fire (no plates or wide bowls please). We will fire as many pots as possible, but there is no guarantee that everything will be fired. It's better to bring more work than less.

All participants must come prepared for a safe experience: No sandals, shorts, or polyester clothing. Long hair must be tied back. 

This workshop is for current or past HCA adult ceramic students. It will take place at the Potters Shop and School located at 31 Thorpe Rd in Needham MA. Registered participants are responsible for their own transportation.
