New! Imaginative Realism: Create the Unreal

Learn to draw what’s in your head as if it were right in front of you! Imaginative realism combines classical painting techniques with creative narration, focusing on depicting the unreal whether that is fantasy, science fiction, history, or other theoretical moments. Through a combination of demonstrations and active art making, Liz McLelland will guide you through making your own realistic illustration from concept to finish. Choose your favorite medium to work in, whether that's acrylic, oil, or watercolor to finish your piece. For those who are looking to enhance your narration and painting skills or beginners interested in illustrating what you have been imagining.

Materials: HCA will provide all in classroom materials.
Instructor: Liz McLelland

About Liz McLelland: Liz McLelland is an illustrator and visual effects artist with more than fifteen years of experience in the film industry. In her VFX work, she digitally combines all of the various elements that make up a shot, and makes them all look as if they exist in the same space within a live-action sequence. She has created memorable scenes in Rebel Moon (2023), The Mandalorian (2019), and Shutter Island (2010). Throughout the course of her career she has lived in Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Toronto, before returning to New England during the pandemic.
Besides her work in Hollywood, Liz also works out of the Holliston Mill artist studios, painting primarily digitally with oils, with a focus on science fiction and fantasy illustration.
