Thrown, Altered, Assembled: Building Dynamic Forms

Sunday June 7

Other dates...

10:00 AM  –  5:00 PM

Intermediate wheel throwers are invited to join talented potter and educator Paul Wisotzky for a hands-on workshop exploring the creative possibilities beyond basic wheel throwing. Through a combination of demonstration and guided practice, we'll learn how to throw, alter, and assemble multiple components into dynamic finished forms. Expand your vocabulary of form and construction and leave with new techniques and fresh energy for your work!

We'll dive into two projects: a tall vase or bottle form constructed from three thrown and altered parts, and a versatile serving dish that can be shape-shifted soft on the wheel from round to oval, square, rectangle. Along the way we'll also learn different approaches to adding handles to complete their serving pieces.

Please note: During the workshop, participants will make the components for the constructed form as well as altered serving dishes. They will need to be finished later once the pieces get to leather hard. Participants will need minimally six bats each. Surform Clay Shredder or similar. Calipers – two sets per student. Intermediate wheel skills required. Participants must be able to center and throw cylinders efficiently and with various amounts of clay.
