Our teen intensive program focuses specifically on one medium per camp week, giving students the opportunity to build a strong foundation while developing a focused portfolio of artwork. Teens will work closely with professional artists and explore the week's medium in depth. All levels of experience are welcome. Student work will be displayed at the end of the week. 

Week 1: Drawing Fundamentals
A strong visual arts foundation starts with a pencil and paper! Throughout the week, teens will sharpen their ability to observe the world closely and draw what they truly see, rather than relying on assumptions or symbols. We'll explore a variety of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, animals, and plants, while practicing core drawing concepts like shading, contour drawing, line weight, value, and texture.

We will practice rendering specific features—like eyes, hair, and hands—but the primary focus will be on training the artist's eye: learning to capture proportions, shapes, and subtle details in the world around us. Students will gain confidence in their ability to observe, interpret, and express what they see, building strong skills that they can apply to any type of drawing.

Grades: 6–12
Week 1: June 30–July 3 (Mon–Thurs)
Location: 98 Hayden Rowe Street
Program Time: 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Drop-off: Between 8:45–9 a.m.
Pick-up: Between 3–3:15 p.m. 
Late Pickups: Incur a fee of $10 for the first 15 minutes and $5 a minute after that.
Materials: All materials will be provided, but each participant should bring: 

• 2 snack(s) (no nuts please) 
• Lunch (no nuts please)
• A reusable water bottle with your child's name on it
• Sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray) and bug spray (optional)
• Wear clothes that are comfortable and washable

• Photo Release Agreement: You can agree to the HCA's Photo Release Agreement during registration.

Scholarships: The HCA believes the arts are for everyone. Thanks to the generosity of the Dora Kishibay Garabedian Scholarship Fund and individual donations to our scholarship fund, we can assist children, teens, and adults who might not otherwise be able to afford classes.
