Build your composition skills as we practice making quick, simple thumbnails. All levels of experience are welcome as we'll focus on value and clarity as the technique requires minimal supplies—just grey markers, paper, and pencils. The practice of creating thumbnails provides ample opportunities for creativity as you are encouraged to try things you may not otherwise explore. These thumbnails can be a great step in the process of working on a larger piece as well, as they give you the opportunity to refine your focal points, creating the strongest arrangement before getting into details.

The finished thumbnails are works in their own right as they give the effect of looking at the work from a distance, which can intrigue viewers even more as they are drawn in for a closer look. Instructor Marion Buricatu will guide you through examples from American masters, making the learning process enjoyable and enriching.
