Haikus are a short form of poetry originating in Japan, that evokes natural imagery in what can be a fun, fresh and witty style. Through writing exercises and discussions, we will discover the history of this art form and learn how to write our own versions.
Haiku can come in a variety of different formats of short verses, though the most common is a three-line poem with a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. We'll read examples from 17th century Japan to modern day, and learn how to write our own by using essential and helpful writing prompts along with reading and sharing your poems with the class.
Please note: Please bring beverages and food for the lunch break, or take advantage of takeout from a nearby Hopkinton restaurant!
