Designed for the artist who wants to tell a story with text and images, we invite you to explore cartoons, comic books, and graphic novels. Try your hand at single panel cartoons, short comics, as well as pacing dialogue and action to go along with your drawings. Bring a project you already are working on to get feedback and support, or the instructor will provide an open-ended script and pre-set panels to increase your pencil, ink and color skills. We will also cover shortcuts, adding in text, perspective, and different styles of drawing. All skill levels welcome.

Comics and graphic novels aren't just for kids anymore. We will look at a wide variety of styles and genres for inspiration from single-panels like Gary Larson, to Manga and Marvel styles.

Materials: HCA will provide all in classroom materials, however you are welcome to bring in your own sketchbooks and supplies.
