Artist Demonstration: Drawing on Inspiration

Friday July 18

Other dates...

7:00 PM  –  9:00 PM

Shea Justice has garnered significant attention for his powerful artwork, featured in galleries and museums such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.

Join Shea for an inspiring evening on Friday, July 18, as he speaks to the audience about using art as a vehicle to express your emotions. As he shares his thoughts, he’ll also be drawing live on a long communal scroll—capturing the themes and discussions of the evening in real-time.

This participatory event offers a rare chance for everyone gathered around the table to add their drawings or doodles while listening to Shea's observations and perspectives.

The completed scroll will later be displayed at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA), showcasing this unique collaborative creation guided by Shea’s vision and the evening’s discussion.

The acclaimed scroll concept stems from Shea’s high school teaching practice and the meaningful conversations about race, politics, and their intersection with art that he has with his students, along with a desire to repurpose unused rolls of paper! The idea of group drawing, open to all skill levels, will allow participants to express their emotions through elaborate drawings or simple doodling.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, Shea Justice holds a teaching degree from Boston University. His impactful work, History Is No Mystery—a haunting series of collages and drawings juxtaposing images of American racism with excerpts from the U.S. Constitution and historical newspaper headlines—was recently exhibited at Boston’s Fountain Street Gallery.
